Welcome to Resolvium

I am pleased to have the opportunity to introduce myself and shed light on what I do as a professional divorce mediator. My name is Tim Dowling, and I am a passionate and dedicated professional with extensive experience in guiding couples through the challenging process of divorce.

Throughout my career, I have spent 25 years in corporate America revolving around extensive corporate contracts, banking, mortgage, and conflict resolution. I have witnessed firsthand the emotional toll and financial strain that divorces can impose on individuals, families, and children. It is this profound understanding that led me to pursue a profession as a divorce mediator, aiming to provide a more cooperative approach to divorce settlements while preserving your rights and protecting your wealth.

I passionately believe that divorce does not have to be synonymous with conflict and bitterness. With my expertise as a mediator, I strive to help couples find common ground and reach mutually beneficial agreements that consider the needs and interests of both parties involved.

My approach to divorce mediation is centered on open communication, understanding, and fairness. I create a safe and neutral space where couples can express their concerns, goals, and aspirations for the future. By actively listening and fostering constructive dialogue, I guide them through the process of exploring creative solutions and finding compromises that align with their unique circumstances.

As a divorce mediator, I hold a deep respect for the emotional journey that individuals go through during this time. I provide a supportive and non-judgmental environment where clients can freely express their feelings and concerns. Together, we navigate the intricacies of divorce, addressing issues such as child-sharing time, parenting decision-making, visitation, division of assets, and spousal support, all while striving to minimize the negative impact on children and family dynamics.

I have been trained in divorce mediation and conflict resolution. I completed this training at Pepperdine Caruso School of Law and Northwestern University. My diverse educational background, coupled with years of professional practical experience, has equipped me with the necessary skills to tackle even the most complex divorce situations. I continuously stay abreast of the latest legal developments in the states I provide services and mediation techniques, ensuring that my clients receive the highest level of expertise and guidance throughout the mediation process.

My goal is to empower couples to take control of their divorce proceedings, make informed decisions, and design agreements that serve as a solid foundation for their future. By choosing mediation, couples can achieve a more peaceful and respectful separation, avoiding the adversarial nature often associated with traditional litigation. Together, we can navigate the challenges, find common ground, and pave the way for a brighter future.

Instead of perpetuating conflict, my focus is on empowering individuals to make decisions that profoundly impact their lives and, crucially, the lives of their children.

Beyond my personal journey and the support I’ve extended to others facing similar challenges, I proudly hold a master’s degree in legal studies from Pepperdine Law School. Currently pursuing a master’s in dispute resolution, I am deeply immersed in the esteemed dispute resolution program at Pepperdine, ensuring that my skills are at the forefront of industry advancements.

My background as a national champion, Junior Olympic softball player, and Division 1 NCAA scholar-athlete provides me with a unique perspective on personal development, teamwork, and comprehending the bigger picture. These qualities, coupled with my personal experience and ongoing education, uniquely position me to expertly guide you through the complexities of divorce.

I’ve not only successfully navigated the terrain of co-parenting and sharing custody of my children but have done so even in the face of challenging circumstances. Having traversed the full spectrum of possibilities—from one extreme to the other—I am here to not only empathize with your situation but to empower you to chart a course toward a better, more harmonious future.

 Sincerely,

Kimberly Dawson

I am Kimberly Dawson, and I bring compassion to mediation.  I recognize that each individual brings their own perspectives, emotions, and lived experiences to a dispute, so I approach conflicts with neutrality, empathy, and a desire to uncover both parties’ interests to guide them to a successful resolution.

From my own personal experiences, and as a professional in corporate America, I have seen how a combination of differing opinions and lack of empathy can lead to adversarial relationships and harmful outcomes for both sides.  I understand that sometimes we become so frustrated with and desensitized to another person that we may stop being able to hear them.  I see my role as a mediator as somewhat of a translator: not just of words but of feelings and desires.  In conflict, we often see the other party as the opposition that we must beat, so my goal is to humanize each party to the other and encourage a space where each person can participate in a meaningful discussion to reach an amicable solution.

I am currently earning two master’s degrees: the first in legal studies and the second in dispute resolution, both from Pepperdine Caruso School of Law.  Additionally, in my pursuit to promote equity and justice, I volunteer with the Illinois Healing Centered Task Force which will propose recommendations to prevent and treat all types of trauma in Illinois.

My philosophy on mediation is this: Disputes will arise.  We may not be able to control the “when” or the “why” of the conflict, but if we do not allow our emotions to take over, we can usually control how we react to the conflict. And once we have control of our reaction, we should preserve that control through a mediated process so that we do not leave our fate to a judge or jury, but rather the outcome is determined by the people it impacts the most: us.
